Besta is a Portuguese group of very pissed off guys trying to make heavy and nasty crust-grind music like is no one’s business and that’s what they’ve been doing successfully for a few years already. Inspired by political issues and horror culture, this angry mob has unleashed what would be their 6th production (including splits) titled “John Carpenter” in honor of one of the most iconic American film directors of the horror genre.
I don’t know about you but I prefer my grindcore crunchy, right in the same vein as the Finnish Rotten Sound, Afgrund and Death Toll 80K; and that’s precisely what you’d find on this album. The guitar and bass sound are always dominant, even during Lafayette’s fastest blast beats and Rick Chain’s loudest screams. That being said, the vocal work doesn’t shy one single bit as Chain portrays the matching rage of the music, with deep deathly lows to unique unhuman shrieks that would frightened you if no instruments were being played.
Comprised by 13 tracks, this record immediately starts its business with ear-piercing intensity, precision and tight musicianship. The fact that they’re playing grindcore, does not necessarily mean they have to be messy at the moment of writing a song. Keeping a firm structure on their performance is what they seem to do best and what actually really draw me into them. Even the shortest song “Nova lorque 1997” sounds accurate on each beat and stroke.
The first half of songs has a very similar formula: A few seconds guitar intro, complimentary drumming before the main riff, vocals kick in. The second half, on the other hand, has a different model by incorporating slower riffs or even entire songs like “O Regresso do Mal” or “O Principe Das Trevas” and that’s always enjoyable to find after a speedy pack of tunes. It also allows the listener ro appreciate the importance of Gaza’s bass on their crusty harmony of brutality. To me, diversity is the Holy Grail to make a masterpiece or outstand you from your peers, and these guys do it wonderfully.
After listening to this several times, I can’t really think on anything negative or off-putting about it. It is what it is, in fact, it’s great on what it is. Its consistency is supreme and somehow expected even for first time listeners because you just don’t want anything else; you just feel like you must punch a hole in a wall; you feel that you need more grind like this one and will look for more like it and that’s a good thing, because there’s a massive number of bands like Besta waiting to melt your face! -Evil Warnings
The duo brings dark environments, sometimes sinister, melodic interludes and broken voices as northern Iceage, Metz or duo L'Hereu Escampa. We are surrounded by an atmosphere of hopeful guitars while the battery and voice contort and guide the song based on radical changes dynamically.
As a sort of apocalyptic Japandroids, we spit songs like 'Rubicone', 'Mr. White "or" Happy Birthday ", the latter probably the most inspired long mixing a kind of folk with inevitable sound booms. The content is great 9 pieces of bitter loudness between the immediacy and aggressiveness of certain notes dispensed by a raging guitars now.

Sport is a four piece band from Lyon, France who formed in 2010. Sport
play a great style of music influenced by 90's emo, punk, and indie
rock. Sport cites Souvenirs and Breath Of An Epoch as influences, which
definitely shows up in the band's sound. The great thing about Sport
is that their sound mixes equal parts 90's-early 2000's emo played by
bands such Mineral, Sunny Day Real Estate, Small Brown Bike, and The
Jazz June with more current emo bands such as Signals Midwest and Crash
Of Rhinos. Since their inception in 2010, Sport have released a five

atmospheric, ambient, and intense style of music that melds elements of
post hardcore, emo, screamo, and post rock into a sound and style of

If it's a brutal assault on the senses you're after, you need go no further than Turkish noise punk merchants, Haossaa. The Istanbul based trio recently released their self titled debut album and like their earsplitting live show, it's a relentless collection of nine short and razor edged instrumental tracks that run just over 21 minutes but will leave you reeling. There is a real nihilstic and industrially destructive feel to their music and the track titles are telling. Loosely translated into English they include; 'Unnecessary Appliances', 'You Are The Only Pigs', 'Aluminium Amonia' and 'The Farmers Gun Friendly Land'. There is also clearly a relationship with Germany as evidenced on the opening track 'Yamamoto Kolonyasi' and 'Alman Enver Pasa'. However, words aren't really necessary when the music so conveys the bands critical bent on the soulless nature of the all consuming commercial world that attempts to dominate our lives. Check out the track '5 Çok! 3 Yok!' and a clip from them playing two tracks at home in Istanbul at the recent Demonation Festival at Arkaoda below. Check out the loyal fans in the front with the kazoos, plastic forks and plastic bags on their heads - crazy!!! -Indie30

If you like distortion and grinding guitar riffs, splashes of crazy random saxophone sounds, punk, anger, lyrics that make you think coming from a voice that is sometimes purr, sometimes sarcasm, sometimes scream, then you need to check out Repo Man. Their debut album, All Mind In The Cat House is slated for release on September 9th on Lava Thief.
Think of a band influenced by The Fall or Swans with a touch of Bauhaus, Sonic Youth, The Birthday Party and Enablers. Have you ever been to a show where you start off just standing there, on the spot, immobile, wondering what all of this is, and then automatically go into a mind space where you want to move like an insane person, pushing things, kicking things, getting something out of your system, and then immediately fall back into that immobile spot, mouth half open, words flowing into your brain, body still electric from the music, ready for more? That's exactly how Repo Man's music make me feel. -From the Inside

Four years after «How Hate Is Hard To Define» and a pair of splits, here's the long-awaited second full-length from Toulouse, France's PLEBEIAN GRANDSTAND. «Lowgazers» marks another impressive step in the band's quest of total aural devastation : armed with new drummer Ivo (Stuntman, PAL…), the four-piece picks the most dissonant and experimental aspects of black metal, hardcore and sludge to create an unreal vortex of desolation.
From the first notes of "Thrvst", the band reaches new heights of intensity, switching from inhuman blast beats to slow-motion torture, while unorthodox guitar work and painfully shrieked vocals tear the listener from all quarters. Recorded and mixed by Amaury Sauvé (Birds In Row, Calvaiire, Death Engine…) then mastered at New Alliance East (Converge, Gaza, Xasthur), «Lowgazers»'s sounds commensurate to the band's vision, being a ruthless demonstration of power as well as an untouchable pinnacle in extreme music hybridization. -Press Note

If the future touring schedule of this upstate NY trio ever takes them to the dirty south, chances are they'll find themselves waging more than a few drunken parking lot arguments with dirty southern dudes bitching about the "sanitization of sludge". Of course, the word "sanitization" won't be used, but the cruz of the tête-à-tête will be Clover's cold precision and clinical tighness. And that they probably look and dress more clean-cut than Helmet at the height of Page Hamilton's cabana boy image. -New Noise Magazine

It's always a treat when a band exudes classic screamo smell which is not practically . Not particularly short but chaotic , full of rhythm changes and harrowing explosions loaded aggressive songs. Tempano gets resurrected in memory Aussitôt names like Mort , or Saetia City of Caterpillar , but also some of the early pioneers of Japanese bands in this genre, the most representative being Envy . Five devastating cuts that leave just enough time to breathe , beginning before everything falls , already in its first seconds puts all the cards on the table and laid the foundations for a stark and wild sound . Today it grows slowly , and is the one with the most obvious haven of calm , and played with two voices, with high and low screams. Open wounds is an apparent oasis with a hard black finish, while Longing is emerging as one of the strongest . Close this part of Split Eye Blind , with a structure that alternates peace with agony in the best tradition of classic screamo
After a demo in which all cuts had the name of a known film actor, surprised that the four songs that make up its part of the lack of split title. However this does not detract attractive content, and even gives him a mysterious aura, which is very appropriate for your sound. La Tumba de Nicolas Cage do a post-rock that draws on the greats, Sobriety Explosions In The Sky and Mogwai rock action, but overall less content, more vibrant and more obvious elements of progressive rock . Four themes focused on creating atmospheres but able to get make the most of the instruments, both for the meditative passages to the most explosive moments. Twenty minutes intense, with calm times but undeniably intense. -Originaly reviewed on Frog the World, them destroyed by google translator and me, sorry.

Though aggression is a highly valued trait for a punk/hardcore band, weirdness is also a very valuable commodity. The Good Wife, who hail from Southampton, are as weird as a band could be whilst still remaining a “hardcore band” at their core.

Minor Noise is the third album of French five-piece band Jack & The Bearded Fishermen. Since 2005, Jack & the Bearded Fishermen built his universe with distortion and loud melodies. The structure is raw: drums, bass, three guitars and two voices. Their sound is discordant, pummeling, tense and angular with plenty of room for melody reminiscent of alternative/indie rock bands. The Ocean Doesn't Want Me is a three-piece outfit from Pretoria, South Africa. Its second full-lenght "As The Dust Settles" is a concept album, with each song being
about one of seven characters attending a funeral of the deceased – a friend, a
husband, a father, an adulterer, and acquaintance and his origin. Their music is quite hard to describe, they don't stick to one genre of music but a multi-layered hybrid of all of them. All in all, is an emotionally charged album with equal landscapes of dreamy post rock vibes mixed in with unpredictable outbursts of sludge metal. Mastered and produced by Magnus Lindberg from Cult Of Luna, highly recommended for fans of Cult Of Luna, Isis, Mouth Of The Architect, Maeth.. Dig it.
